What is the difference?
When designing a custom flag, one of the first choices you make is: should I go for single-sided or double-sided printing? This may seem like a technical detail, but it has a major impact on visibility, appearance, and price.
Single-sided printing
With a single-sided flag, the design is printed on one side only. Because the fabric is thin, the design shows through on the back as a mirror image — but fainter and less vivid. This is ideal when the flag always faces one direction, such as along a building facade or indoors.
Advantages:
- Lower production cost
- Lighter fabric, flies more easily in light winds
- Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use
Disadvantages:
- The reverse side shows a faded, mirrored image
- Less suitable when both sides are clearly visible
Double-sided printing
With double-sided printing, the flag is made of two separately printed layers sewn together with a blackout liner in between. This means your design is sharp, vibrant, and fully readable on both sides — even when the flag hangs in a headwind or is viewed from two directions.
Advantages:
- Identical design on front and back
- Professional appearance, ideal for events and businesses
- No see-through or mirrored effect
Disadvantages:
- Slightly higher price due to double printing and liner
- Heavier weight — performs best in stronger winds
Which one should you choose?
Use these guidelines to help you decide:
- Facade flag against a wall or indoors: Single-sided is sufficient
- Sporting event or festival: Double-sided for maximum visibility
- Municipal or corporate flag outdoors: Double-sided, especially on a freestanding flagpole
- Small run or temporary campaign: Single-sided is the most cost-effective choice
