What Size Facade Flag Do You Need? The Complete Size Guide

Why the right size matters

A facade flag that's too small disappears against the building. One that's too large looks bulky and puts needless strain on the pole and bracket. Choosing the right size is therefore one of the most practical decisions when designing your facade flag. In this guide we explain which size suits which facade and situation.

The standard size

Our facade flags ship as standard in 150 × 100 cm (width × height). This size fits almost any facade, reads clearly from across the street and stays light enough to move freely in the wind. Other sizes are available on request — handy for a narrow frontage or a large building.

When to choose a smaller or larger size

Smaller than standard

Have a narrow facade, a shallow pavement, or a flag hanging at eye level above a door? A more compact size looks tidier. The flag stays close to the building and doesn't project too far over the street.

Larger than standard

For a tall or wide building, a flag on the first floor, or a spot along a busy road, you'll want extra visibility. A larger size keeps your design legible from a distance and from passing cars.

Choose your size in 3 steps

  • 1. Viewing distance. The further away the average passer-by, the larger the flag — and the bigger your logo and text should be. Rule of thumb: from ±25 metres, 150 × 100 cm reads well for a large logo.
  • 2. Height of the pole. Is the bracket mounted high up? Then lean towards a larger size so the flag stays in proportion with the building.
  • 3. Space above the pavement. Allow enough clearance above the footpath and room from the neighbours. A smaller size is safer on a busy, narrow pavement.

Design all the way to the edges

Supply your artwork at the full size of the flag. Keep key elements — logo and text — at least 5% margin from the edges so nothing is lost in finishing (hem and attachment). Going double-sided? Each side then carries its own design, perfectly sharp and with no show-through.

Still unsure? Make a mock-up

Cut a piece of paper or cardboard to 150 × 100 cm and hold it against your facade where the flag will go. You'll see straight away whether the size suits your building and the street.
